The Portland Timbers are a professional soccer club based in Portland, Ore., and compete in Major League Soccer (MLS). On March 20, 2009, MLS awarded Portland the leagueâ??s 18th franchise, and the Timbers played their inaugural season in North Americaâ??s top-flight professional soccer league in 2011.
