The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) is the state's public, environmental and occupational health laboratory. We protect the health and safety of Wisconsin's people and environment and provide training to other professionals. Founded in 1903 at the University of Wisconsin and as an auxiliary unit reporting to the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, the WSLH embodies the Wisconsin Idea. The work we do daily reaches not only the borders of the state, but nationally and internationally. Our goal is to: Protect, Research, Collaborate, Advise and Teach. WSLH scientists and academic leaders offer quality services in an array of technical specialties, including: Infectious Diseases Newborn Screening Cytogenetics Biochemical Genetics Cytology and Cytotechnology education Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology Radiochemistry Toxicology Industrial Hygiene/Occupational Health Laboratory Proficiency Testing We actively participate in the vibrant University of Wisconsin-Madison community—fostering partnerships with academic departments, performing vital human and environmental health research, and providing education and training in the areas of clinical, environmental, and occupational health and safety.
