"Bringing quality healthcare back home to St. Bernard"
There’s no prouder community than that of St. Bernard Parish – and none that was more impacted by disasters that have rocked Louisiana. On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated St. Bernard Parish. The storm damaged virtually every building including the parish hospital. The destruction forced many from this proud community to seek residence and healthcare elsewhere.
Launched in September 2012, St. Bernard Parish Hospital brings quality healthcare back home to this proud, historically significant community. The 113,000 square foot state-of-the-art hospital facility supports 40 patient beds, an intensive care unit, 4 operating suites, 2 endoscopy suites, plus a 10-bed emergency department. In addition, St. Bernard Parish Hospital provides complete medical imaging, laboratory, in-house pharmacy, and dietary & nutritional services.
Taking into account the lessons learned from Katrina, St. Bernard Parish Hospital has been designed to withstand extreme weather and water conditions. Generators, diesel fuel tanks and operating systems are located more than 25 feet above ground.
A 60,000 sq ft medical office building adjacent to the hospital is also under development, thus making the campus the core provider for the healthcare needs of St. Bernard Parish. The campus promises to serve an anchoring and stabilizing force in healthcare and as a major catalyst for economic and community recovery.
