About
After approximately 10 years of research and development parent company Honda introduced the Acura brand in the U.S. market in 1986. In the beginning there were only two cars offered: the Legend sedan, which was the first true Japanese luxury car sold in America, and the Integra sport coupe and sedan. This was done in an effort to create a separate luxury division for its products. The Acura brand was immediately successful. Customers liked the features, performance and upscale image of the Acura cars, along with the fact that Acuras were backed by Honda’s reputation for reliability and low ownership costs. In 2000, an all new SUV debuted – the MDX sporting numerous family friendly features, including a third row seat. It was at this same time that its most popular models the midsize TL and flagship RL received a complete redesign. By mid-decade Acura was filling out its model lineup with the street-performance-oriented RDX compact crossover and the ZDX, a fastback styled crossover. The Grand Opening of Acura of Memphis was held in May of 1986. In February of 2003 Dan Umansky took over as General Manager. In 2007 the decision was made to move the dealership to a new location, so in November Acura of Memphis hosted its’ second grand opening in the location that we are in now with over 64,000 square feet and over 75 employees. Since the move to the new location in ’07 Acura of Memphis has sold over 2,300 new Acuras.
