The company was founded in 1984 with the mission of providing individuals, families, the self-employed and small businesses with options that met their health insurance needs. In April 5, 2006, we completed a merger providing for the acquisition of the Company by affiliates of a group of private equity investors, including affiliates of The Blackstone Group, Goldman Sachs Capital Partners and Credit Suisse-DLJ Merchant Banking Partners (the "Private Equity Investors"). Following the merger, the stockholders of HealthMarkets, Inc. include members of management, independent insurance agents who participate in the HealthMarkets, Inc.
