Founded in 1901, The LeFrak Organization maintains one of the most extensive real estate portfolios in the United States, having created tens of thousands of apartments in hundreds of luxury buildings; millions of square feet of commercial, office, and retail space; and scores of prestigious mixed-use structures and communities.
Recognized as one of the world's leading building firms, the LeFrak Organization has been acclaimed internationally for its commitment to responsible community development and sensitivity to environmental preservation.
A paragon in its field, LeFrak revolutionized the building industry with its "Total Facilities for Total Living" in vast communities like LeFrak City - 5,000 apartments on 42 acres - where residents enjoy year-round on-site facilities for shopping, entertainment, and leisure. Equally unique was the Company's creation of the first mixed-use structures in the New York metropolitan area, combining residential, commercial and retail space in luxury towers.
The Organization also met the challenge of developing the 92-acre Battery Park City as the first major waterfront landfill community in New York in more than 100 years. LeFrak also built the first 1,700 luxury apartments at Battery Park: Gateway Plaza; the attractive Hudson River esplanade; an underground garage; retail and commercial space; and a health and swim club.
Billions of LeFrak dollars have financed a variety of international projects, such as corporate diversifications, joint ventures, and developing residential and commercial projects worldwide.
The Company has dealt with major American and foreign institutions, including pension trusts, insurance companies, savings banks, and the world's largest commercial banks, enabling the expeditious building of apartments and commercial towers in urban centers. Through these and other active partnerships with city, state, and federal agencies, as well as with other builders, the LeFrak Organization on numerous occasions has turned blighted areas into thriving communities.
Worldwide LeFrak commercial interests also have included entertainment production, publishing, merchant banking, value investing, oil and gas exploration, and wind generated energy.
When Harry LeFrak founded the LeFrak Organization in 1901, he strived to identify his name with building integrity and quality ... as several generations of forefathers in France and Europe had achieved before him.
From 1948 until his death in 2003, Harry's son, Samuel J. LeFrak, as chairman of the Company, initiated and oversaw an increase in construction to meet enormous post-World War II housing demands. By the early 1950s, the Company also began to reclaim large tracts of land to develop innovative mini-cities for which the LeFrak Organization has been acknowledged as a leader in its field. The LeFrak name has become synonymous with excellence in design, construction, engineering, and urban planning.
LeFrak currently is building Newport, a $10 billion development on several hundred acres along the Jersey City Hudson River waterfront. The largest mixed-use community in the Northeast, Newport is an environment encompassing the "Total Living" concept pioneered by LeFrak, and represents the Company's commitment to serving consumers and business through a tradition of excellence.
Today, Richard S. LeFrak, Chairman and CEO, and his sons Harrison and Jamie LeFrak, Managing Directors, continue to achieve the Company's long-standing aims of maintaining the highest standards of integrity and quality in all the Company's vast building and business endeavors planned for the future.Lefrak Organization Address
