As a little boy, Mike Liautaud (a.k.a. “Big Mike”) didn’t dream of becoming an astronaut or a firefighter or even a professional athlete. As far back as he can remember, he wanted to be in the restaurant business, and that’s exactly where he’s spent his entire working life. In March of 1989, Big Mike opened a single sandwich shop called “Big Mike’s Super Subs” in the heart of the University of Wisconsin – Madison campus on West Johnson Street. Pretty quickly, curious sandwich seekers turned into ravenous fans because of Milio’s signature bread, which is baked fresh every four hours, at every store, every day. Before we knew it, our one small sandwich shop led to dozens of locations throughout the Midwest. How do we do it you ask? Well, Big Mike took a firm stand on providing the level of quality food and service that would differentiate his sandwich shop from all the rest. In February of 2004, Big Mike’s Super Subs decided to franchise and that was the birth of Milio’s Sandwiches (somewhat of a combination of “Mike” and “Liautaud”). That’s about it. History was never our favorite class anyway. We’d much rather just go to lunch. Why not join us? We’ll make you a sandwich just the way you like it. Just like we’ve been doing for our customers for more than 25 years. And so, there’s the story of how Mike began making the best-tasting sandwiches in the Midwest.
