Smart & Final Inc., a 56.7%-owned subsidiary of Casino USA, Inc., sells food, foodservice products and culinary equipment through warehouse stores, wholesale stores and broadline foodservice distribution businesses. Sales from grocery items accounted for 24.9% of the Company's total sales in 2002, while dairy, produce, meat and bakery items, as well as frozen food items accounted for 24.4% and 13.3%, respectively. Smart & Final's major operations include the non-membership warehouse grocery stores segment (Stores) and the broadline foodservice distribution segment (Foodservice). The Company's principal subsidiary is Smart & Final Stores Corporation, which also operates a cash-and-carry division. In September 2003, the Company sold its foodservice direct delivery business units and its Florida stores.
