About
Jennie-O Turkey Store, Inc., based in Willmar, Minn., is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE:HRL) and is one of the largest turkey processors and marketers in the world. We are an industry-leading processor and marketer of traditional and value-added turkey products for retail, foodservice and deli markets. We offer an array of high-quality fresh, frozen, refrigerated, and deli turkey products. Jennie-O Turkey Store produces more than 1,500 items, distributing our products throughout the United States and 26 countries. Jennie-O Turkey Store currently employs over 7,000 people throughout the United States. In February 2001, two of the turkey industry's leading companies, Jennie-O Foods, Inc., and The Turkey Store Company, merged to create a new, single company - Jennie-O Turkey Store, Inc. Now united under a single brand, Jennie-O Turkey Store offers the most extensive turkey product assortment in the marketplace. The JENNIE-O TURKEY STORE single brand combines the tradition and taste of the JENNIE-O brand with the fresh premium qualities of THE TURKEY STORE brand to create convenient, year-round meal solutions for today's consumers. Jennie-O Turkey Store's strong product line-up caters to the needs of today's busy, health-conscious consumers who are discerning about the quality and taste of the food they serve to their families. Jennie-O Foods started in the 1940's as a vision of the Minnesota-native entrepreneur and part-time turkey grower, Earl B. Olson, who purchased his first turkey processing plant in 1949 in Willmar, Minnesota. Throughout the decades, the company named after Earl's daughter, Jennifer, grew and thrived. Jennie-O Foods was acquired by Hormel Foods Corporation in December 1986. Since 1986, Jennie-O Foods grew from the sixth largest processor in the United States to the largest in 2000. In 1922, Wallace Jerome, founder of The Turkey Store Company, started the business of raising turkeys when he was just 13 years old. He purchased a three-story barn in 1941 that was used for all stages of turkey production. Jerome began production of "New York dressed" turkeys in 1948, two years later he purchased and equipped a building into a turkey processing plant. By 1952, the company was the first federally inspected, oven-ready turkey processing plant in Wisconsin. What started with the vision of two entrepreneurs has turned into one of the world's largest processors and marketers of turkey products. Jennie-O Turkey Store processes over 1.2 billion pounds of turkey on an annual basis in a combination of toms for further processing and hens for whole bird enterprise. As a fully-integrated business, Jennie-O Turkey Store begins with the egg. The company has 11 breeder farms producing 25 million eggs annually for our three hatcheries (plus one contract hatchery) that hatch nearly 46 million poults annually. The birds are fed from our eight feed mills located throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. Our feed mills produce 1,450,000 tons of feed annually and supply the majority of feed needs for company farms and grow partner operations. Jennie-O Turkey Store has over 100 company farms throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. When the birds reach maturity, they are processed in one of our seven processing plants. Our processing operations are located in Barron, Wisconsin; Faribault, Melrose, Montevideo, Pelican Rapids and two in Willmar, Minnesota. With such a rich history, JENNIE-O TURKEY STORE® products enjoy a strong reputation for quality, flavor, health and convenience. Combining The Turkey Store's position in fresh, boneless retail products with Jennie-O's strong brand presence in the further processed retail, foodservice and deli areas, creates the most extensive line of branded turkey products - providing the highest quality turkey from the egg to the table.
