The Robert K. Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership is an international nonprofit organization that promotes the awareness, understanding and practice of servant leadership. It pursues that mission through a variety of training programs, conferences, publications and partnerships. Robert K. Greenleaf founded the nonprofit Greenleaf Center (first called “The Center for Applied Ethicsâ€) in 1964. Not long after, Greenleaf published The Servant as Leader, a landmark essay that coined the phrase "servant-leader" and launched the modern servant leadership movement. Servant leadership is a timeless concept. We know that servant leadership is a guiding principle that enriches the lives of individuals, builds better organizations and ultimately creates a more just and sustainable world. Indeed, countless business, nonprofit, governmental, faith-based and other organizations have adopted servant leadership as a key strategy – one that puts people first and improves performance on more than one bottom line.
