About
Bakersfield City School District provides Special Education and Related Services to students who are eligible for Special Education based on assessment and eligibility criteria identified in the Individuals with Disabilities Education (IDEA) and the California Education Code sections applicable to individuals with exceptional needs. BCSD is a single-district Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) and has an active Community Advisory Committee (CAC) comprised of parents of children with disabilities and other individuals interested in the Special Education programs and services. The Director of Special Education is Donald Dever and the Assistant Director is Julius Steele. Each school and specialized program has a Special Education administrator assigned to provide support to the individual school administrators, teachers and staff, and parents in order to ensure that students with disabilities eligible for Special Education receive a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Our site is continuously being updated to provide information regarding Special Education to staff, parents, and other interested individuals. Click here to access the current Special Education site.
