The Vision Becomes Reality Two years of research and collaborative input from a wide range of individuals and organizations proved instrumental in helping IslandWood design its curriculum, programs, and facilities. Hands-on learning experiences in an outdoor setting for school-aged children and those who touch their lives. An integrated curriculum, featuring science, technology, and the arts, that helps children and other participants develop a deeper understanding of the relationships between biological and cultural diversity. Expanded weekend and summer programs for adults and families. A sustainably designed campus that serves as a model for energy conservation and community living. The official ground breaking for the center was held in the summer of 2000.
