About
Established in 1917 as one of the first Jewish community centers in New York City, the YM & YWHA of Washington Heights and Inwood (“the Y”) today is a thriving and visionary not-for-profit human services organization in Northern Manhattan.  We offer a wide range of educational, recreational and social services programs to enhance the quality of life of the people we serve. From topnotch early childhood education and youth development programs to innovative senior center services, there’s always something for everyone at the Y! Inclusion for children with special needs has also been a huge part of our work. We take a holistic approach to working with our participants, exploring ways our members and participants can take advantage of everything our Community Center has to offer. We also operate two off-site after-school programs for two middle schools in Northern Manhattan, a housing program for low-income seniors, and an off-site campground in Rockland County in collaboration with the Riverdale YM/YWHA and Shames Jewish Community Center. Although we are rooted as a Jewish Community Center, we open our doors to all and embrace the diversity of the Washington Heights/Inwood community. Our staff also reflect that diversity. The Y is a beneficiary member agency of UJA-Federation of New York City.
