For more than 80 years, Mallory Alexander International Logistics has been providing special expertise in transporting such valuables as white gold, priceless artifacts, expensive electronics, and delicate flowers. Originally warehousing and shipping cotton, Mallory Alexander International Logistics now operates as two separate subsidiaries , Alexander International and Mallory Distribution Centers , and lends its expertise to customers in a variety of industries. Today, Mallory Alexander International Logistics enjoys a reputation as one of the country's leading logistics companies. Headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, the company operates an extensive network of public and contract warehousing facilities, freight forwarding and import/export services, and intermodal transportation systems. Mallory Alexander International Logistics is among the top container exporters in the country, and the firm continues to use its expertise to solve the time-sensitive logistics needs of its many customers. Founded in 1925, Mallory Alexander International Logistics is a fourth-generation company with more than 350 employees and operations throughout the United States. Originally called Memphis Compress and Storage Company, the operation met the storage and handling needs of area cotton merchants and producers. The company diversified to serve more industries, and in the early 1960s, Memphis Compress established Chickasaw Warehouse Company to store and handle general merchandise. In the late 1960s, the company expanded its services with a new subsidiary called Shelby Delivery Service, which provided local truck delivery. In the mid-1970s, the company entered the contract warehousing business under the name of Trans-International Warehouse, and soon had major facilities in New Orleans, Houston, Seattle and Oakland. In 1971, Mallory Alexander International Logistics acquired the export division of V. Alexander & Company, an established international freight forwarder specializing in air and ocean shipping. The firm continued to add state-of-the-art services, including Customs brokerage and domestic air freight. During the 1980s, Mallory Alexander International Logistics organized itself into three operating divisions: cotton warehousing, general merchandise warehousing and transportation services, which had the trade names of Memphis Compress and Storage Company, Mallory Distribution Centers and Alexander International, respectively. The cotton operations were sold in 1996. "There have been a lot of changes over the years," says B. Lee Mallory, president of Mallory Distribution Centers and grandson of the founder. "But one thing hasn't changed. This company has continued as a leader in the industries that fuel our region." Today, Mallory Alexander International Logistics is a total transportation company that offers freight forwarding, Customs clearance, domestic and international air and ocean forwarding services. With offices throughout the United States, Mallory Alexander International Logistics has a diverse customer base ranging from the lumber and cotton industries to the hi-tech computer field to shippers of fine arts, including valuable paintings, sculpture and artifacts. Mallory Alexander International Logistics' agency network extends worldwide with special emphasis on the European Common Market and the Pacific Rim areas. The company is dedicated to providing domestic transportation customers with the right service at the best price, and offers next-flight-out, overnight, second-day, third-day and deferred shipping services for time-sensitive shipments. Mallory Alexander International Logistics' offerings for international shipments are equally diverse, and they provide importers and exporters with the flexibility they need to meet demand quickly and efficiently. The company's comprehensive range of international products is tailored to customers' specific needs, and Mallory Alexander International Logistics is known for its willingness to customize operations and information systems to provide transportation solutions that meet customer requirements. "Our success is due to the outstanding quality of the staff and the loyalty of our customers," comments Neely Mallory III, president of Mallory Alexander International Logistics. "Combining these with an efficient and flexible information system has been our focus." In short, Mallory Alexander International Logistics has positioned itself to be at the forefront of offering the international trading community the best in customer service and technology available. Mallory Distribution Centers (MDC) is the logistics and warehousing arm of Mallory Alexander International Logistics. Operating more than 2.4 million square feet of public and contract distribution space for a variety of local, regional and national accounts, MDC delivers a professional program of conventional and custom value-added services that meet clients' needs and budgets. MDC's recipe of location and expertise is a popular one with customers. The company, for example, serves a 400-mile radius overnight, and can reach more than 65 percent of the nation's population on a next-day basis. MDC serves clients in a broad range of businesses, including automotive, paper, packaging, chemical and consumer goods. The most exciting development at MDC is its growing worldwide reputation for fast and smart logistics solutions. The company can combine inbound receiving, kitting, assembly, fulfillment, exporting and a variety of other services to offer clients a turnkey distribution system that is noted for its speed and ability. An Internet florist, for example, hired MDC to handle a part of its volume on Valentine's Day. In concert with the Customs clearance services of Alexander International, the company imported flowers from various international origins, assembled the bulk flowers into individual arrangements and shipped them to customers' doorsteps around the United States. It took 100 extra workers working all night just before Valentine's Day, and the project was completely successful. In the electronics field, MDC provides warehouse logistics services, including kitting, inspection and packaging for multinational companies like Nintendo and Nike. For the manufacturing industry, MDC coordinates and delivers transloading and cross dock services for everything from large rolls of paper for International Paper to automotive parts for General Motors suppliers. "Cotton was the foundation of this city's economy and it was the foundation of our business," says W. Neely Mallory, president of The Mallory Group. "But , like Memphis , we've entered the new, high speed, global economy. We've been committed to serving our global customers with the latest in distribution technology and we look forward to another century of advanced and efficient partnerships."Mallory Alexander International Logistics Address
