St. Petersburg College was established in 1927 in St. Petersburg, Florida. There are ten SPC instruction locations throughout the state of Florida. According to the latest yearly rankings from the U.S. Department of Education and the Florida Community College System, SPC ranked No. 6 nationally in the number of Associate's degrees awarded for all disciplines, No. 3 in degrees awarded in health professions and related sciences, and No. 4 in nursing degrees awarded. On June 6th, 2001, with Governor Jeb Bush's signature, St. Petersburg College became Florida's first community college to be accorded four-year status. The college dropped "Junior" from its name and is developing baccalaureate degrees in Education, Nursing and Technology.
