In 2017, INEOS Chairman Jim Ratcliffe announced the foundation of a new business, INEOS Automotive- established with the mission of creating an uncompromising, old school off-roader. Codenamed Projekt Grenadier- for the pub the idea was first born in- the mission to create this new car was inspired by the discontinuation of the traditional Land Rover Defender. Jim and his team perceived a gap in the market for a rugged, stylish and reliable workhorse vehicle which honoured the spirit of 4x4s of old, yet would also meet the requirements of modern driving. A long-time champion of manufacturing, Jim and the new Automotive company have brought on board a series of Auto experts to compliment their shift into this new domain. They have now partnered with former Mercedes Benz subsidiary MB tech to engineer the new vehicle, due to be launched at the end of 2020, while design and production planning is well underway.
