Kanopy is an on-demand film streaming platform that allows users to experience a collection of the world's best films, through a partnership with more than 4,000 libraries around the world. Offering what the New York Times calls a garden of cinematic delights, Kanopy showcases more than 30,000 films, including award-winning documentaries, rare and hard-to-find titles, film festival favorites, indie and classic gems, and world cinema with collections from Kino Lorber, Music Box Films, Samuel Goldwyn, The Orchard, The Great Courses, PBS and thousands of independent filmmakers.
There are no commercials or fees for users -- their libraries have it covered for them; all users need is a library card to get started. Kanopy was founded in 2008 by CEO Olivia Humphrey as an educational tool for colleges and universities. The service has recently become available in public libraries and access is rapidly expanding across the US, Canada, and Australia.
