About
A Landmark Among Hotels Near DC Metro Stations In1843, Thomas Circle was a quiet residential neighborhood. In fact, the site of the current Washington Plaza was home to Andrew Wylie, presiding judge in the Lincoln assassination conspiracy trial. Nearly 120 years later, in 1962, the International Inn hotel chain opened what would become the most cherished of hotels near DC Metro stops. Architect Morris Lapidus -- known for the Fountainebleu and Eden Roc in Miami Beach -- insisted on designing a resort-like property that focused on the needs of the guests - not the owners. The resulting nine-story edifice on Thomas Circle was the talk of the town … with its curving corridors, strong graphic elements, and sensational swimming pool. Ideally located close to the excitement of the Smithsonian museums and National Mall monuments, this downtown hotel near Washington DC Metro continues to be a favorite among today's savvy business and leisure travelers.
