About
The Center for Biomedical Laboratory Science (CBLS), located in the College of Science and Engineering at San Francisco State University, was established as the Center for Advanced Medical Technology (CAMT) in 1976. In 2003 CBLS merged with the Biology Department. The Center currently houses two graduate programs: a degree program leading to a Master of Science in Biomedical Laboratory Science and a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (medical technologist) Internship Certificate Program. The MS program is designed to accommodate working and part-time students. All classes are in the evenings and on weekends. The departmental research requirement (thesis) can be fulfilled at locations other than on the SFSU campus. The CBLS MS program has four full-time faculty. Approximately 80 students are enrolled at one time and 10-12 degrees are awarded each year. Although many of our graduates are attending doctoral and pre-professional schools, the primary goal of CBLS is to provide students with MS level courses and research training opportunities in biomedical laboratory science.
