In 1906, G.H. (David) Atkins and Clifton Kroll established Atkins, Kroll and Co., Ltd in San Francisco, California; and began trading operations between the United States and Australia. In 1914, Atkins Kroll (Guam) Ltd. was established on Guam to coordinate the growing copra trade in the Pacific Islands. Other subsidiary companies were subsequently established in the Philippines, Saipan, and Singapore. Atkins Kroll's operations in the pacific were interrupted by WWII. After the war, company officials returned to Guam and discovered that loyal Guamanian employees had secretly preserved the company records. This enabled the company to pick up where it left off. In fact, Atkins Kroll played a key role in rebuilding and developing the economies of the islands after the war.
