About
The Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU) is a public political subdivision authorized by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is one of 29 intermediate units created by the PA General Assembly through Act 102 of 1970 to act as instruments of federal, State and local education policies and to achieve economies of scale in the provision of needed services to school districts and nonpublic schools. The CSIU provides more than 100 programs and services to learners of all ages, as well as to school entities, parents, communities, colleges/universities, municipalities and more. A regional education service agency, the CSIU serves clients in Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties, as well as those in other areas of the commonwealth and in other states. The CSIU central office and annex are located in two buildings on Lawton Lane in Milton. The CSIU's Center for School and Communities, which administers several statewide initiatives, is located in Camp Hill. Staff provide services in other locations, including school and correctional facilities, as well as in families homes. As outlined in the PA School Code, the intermediate unit board of directors is composed of members chosen from among members of the boards of school directors of school districts comprising the intermediate unit. There are 17 school districts in the CSIU region, and a representative from each district board is appointed to serve on the CSIU board. There is no limit to the number of three-year terms a member may serve.
