About
The Firm first began in 1963. In 1983 Michael Kaplan joined the firm followed by Allen Dunstan in 1989. The Firm was a leader in the Memphis legal community in moving to offices in East Memphis in 1983, to be closer and more convenient for most of its clients. In 1984 Kriger became General Counsel for one of the Firm's clients, Fogelman Properties. After Michael and Allen became partners and the Firm incorporated, the name was changed to Harkavy Shainberg Kosten & Kaplan, P.A., and then to Harkavy Shainberg Kosten Kaplan & Dunstan, P.C. In 1985 Neil Harkavy joined the firm followed by Alan Harkavy in 1989. With some clients having major roles in the redevelopment of the Center City, Harbor Town, South Bluffs and Uptown areas of Downtown Memphis, the Firm in 1997 reopened its Downtown office and became one of the first Memphis law firms with fully staffed offices both in Downtown and East Memphis. In July 2000, in a move labeled in a newspaper headline as a "Merger of Titans", the Firm merged with Armstrong Allen Prewitt Gentry Johnston & Holmes to form Armstrong Allen PLLC, with offices in Downtown and East Memphis and in three other cities. On April 1, 2005, six Members of the Firm -- Allen Dunstan, Alan, Neil and Ronald Harkavy, Michael Kaplan, and Raymond Shainberg -- with Associate attorneys Staci Blackwell and Josh Kahane, with Alan Kosten, Laurie Cooper and Steve Graber as Counsel, and with their staff of experienced legal assistant professionals from the pre-merger law firm, withdrew from Armstrong Allen and formed Harkavy Shainberg Kaplan & Dunstan PLC, with offices in East Memphis at Poplar and Ridgeway and Downtown in the Pembroke Square building of Peabody Place.
