LMA North America is a privately held subsidiary of The LMA International S.A. Group, which controls the intellectual property, manufacturing and worldwide distribution of the LMA™ product line through various subsidiary and affiliated companies. All LMA™ products for the U.S. market are manufactured by The Laryngeal Mask Company Limited, an affiliated company. LMA North America became the exclusive U.S. distributor of the LMA™ product line in January 1998. This followed the decision by Gensia Sicor Inc. to divest its medical device business in late 1997. Gensia Sicor was the exclusive U.S. distributor of the LMA™ product line from its introduction in 1992 until 1997. LMA North America retained the marketing team that successfully launched the first LMA™ product in 1993 and 1994, and they remain as core members of LMA North America management. In addition, the Company has retained a majority of the medical representatives who were part of the original sales team that introduced the LMA™ product line to the U.S. anesthesiology market in the early 1990's.
