About
In July 1939, three Blommer brothers founded their new chocolate company. They weren't exactly strangers to the business, for their father, William, had been in the chocolate business most of his life as one of the original partners in the Milwaukee firm of Ambrosia Chocolate Company. The sons had followed in their father's footsteps, first at Ambrosia, then at their own firm in Chicago, Illinois. It was both a daring and correct move for the three sons, Henry, Al and Bernard. By 1948, their business warranted further expansion. They branched out nationally with the addition of Blommer Chocolate Factory of California in Los Angeles. It might have remained a southern California division of the firm if Dod Boldemann hadn't approached Henry Blommer, who was an old friend. In 1952, the common stock of Boldemann was purchased. Blommer expanded once again to meet the demands of increasing business when they built a new plant in East Greenville, PA in 1980. Today, Blommer is one of the largest chocolate manufacturers in the United States. Sales are close to three hundred million pounds of chocolate yearly, produced by the three plants; Blommer Chocolate, Chicago, Illinois; Blommer Chocolate, East Greenville, Pennsylvania and Blommer Chocolate, Union City, California.
