About
SERI works to create a world where electronic products are reused and recycled in a way that promotes resource preservation; the well-being of the natural environment; and the health and safety of workers and communities. SERI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and most well known for the R2 Standard and Certification Program. One of the primary ways SERI works to carry out this mission is through the R2 Certification Program. The R2 Standard sets the industry bar for reusing and recycling electronics in a way that protects data, the environment, public health and safety, and promotes a more sustainable and circular economy. The R2 Standard was created in 2008 through a multi-stakeholder process that included the U.S. EPA, electronics manufacturers, recycling companies, non-profit organizations, and other groups. There are more than 800 R2 certified facilities operating in 34 countries.
