About
Named "One of the Five Best Theaters" in the nation for young audiences by TIME magazine and winner of the 2004 Missouri Arts Award, The Coterie is a not-for-profit professional theater for youth and family audiences. Founded in 1979, its mission is to open lines of communication between races, sexes and generations by redefining children’s theatre to include families and diverse audiences. In addition to its mainstage productions, The Coterie offers year-round acting and theatre classes, summer camps at six neighborhood sites and community outreach programs, including Reaching the Write Minds, a unique writing program which gives a voice to emerging teen playwrights, touring productions for Jr. high and high schools, and its Dramatic Health Education Project, an award winning collaborative program between The Coterie, UMKC School of Medicine and Pharmacy, and the KU Medical Center School of Nursing to educate teens about the transmission and prevention of STDs and HIV/AIDS. More information, including season line-up, show dates and times, ticket prices and class schedules is available at www.coterietheatre.org.
