About
Independence Seaport Museum deepens the understanding, appreciation and experience of the Philadelphia region's waterways. We connect our community and visitors to our rivers and watershed through exhibitions and programs featuring history, science and art, plus experiences on the water. The Museum is the premier, year-round, family-friendly destination on the Penn's Landing waterfront. Discover the history of the US Navy as you climb aboard life-sized model Schooner Diligence and National Historic Landmark ships Cruiser OLYMPIA and Submarine BECUNA. Enjoy the Delaware River with our seasonal boat rentals. Experience live demonstrations in our boatbuilding workshop and Citizen Science Lab. Explore one of the largest maritime art and artifact collections in North America, documenting local and regional history, including the Port of Philadelphia. The Seaport Museum was founded in 1960 as the Philadelphia Maritime Museum and has become a key component of Philadelphia's waterfront renaissance. We serve 110,000 visitors annually and are accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.
