was Jacob Thiel who began the family tradition of quality workmanship. This gifted craftsman taught his six sons everything he knew about his trade. In 1955, Robert and Donald Thiel opened their doors for business as R&D Thiel, and were soon joined by their brothers Thomas, Gerald, Allan and Harry. So, from the start, R&D Thiel was a thriving family business with a heritage of working with wood. From this relatively modest beginning evolved one of the largest carpenter contracting firms in the country.
