About
Based in St. Louis, MO The Covering House is a place of refuge and restoration for girls who have experienced sexual trafficking or sexual exploitation. The mission of The Covering House is twofold. First, The Covering House currently provides out-client services to girls rescued from domestic sex-trafficking. These services are geared towards providing therapeutic care for girls not in direct need of housing, or if housing is not available upon rescue. Services include, individual counseling, group therapy, experiential classes, mentoring and tutoring, as well as the Supportive Adults Program which provides resources for caregivers and foster families that are housing rescued girls. The Covering House provides the only long-term therapeutic housing for 8 girls between the ages of 13-17 years old that are in direct need of housing upon rescue from domestic sex-trafficking. In partnership with local and federal law enforcement and social services providers, The Covering House cares for girls referred to them for a one-year period. During each girl’s stay she receives 24/7 care through an integrated therapeutic program that works together and builds on each other within the areas of clinical, educational, experiential and recreational programming. Our therapeutic model also incorporates Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Relational Cultural Theory, and Seeking Safety. The program moves girls towards restoration by helping them regain some of their childhood while becoming healthy women. After each girl’s stay, we aim to provide a seamless transition to foster care, back home, or transitional living by continuing to offer program services through out-client programming while educating and offering support to caregivers through the Supportive Adult Program.
