The Title I program in the Spring Lake Park Schools focuses on providing additional support to kindergarten through third graders in the area of reading. Your child has qualified for these services and will participate in supplemental reading experiences. These services are in addition to the reading instruction your child receives from their classroom teacher. Title I support is provided in a variety of ways. Title I teachers and paraprofessionals work with classroom teachers to identify the specific needs of each child. Title I teachers plan individual, partner, and small group learning experiences tailored to address the skills a student may still need to develop. The reading strategies implemented are based on research and best practice in reading instruction. Children's progress is monitored closely and the learning focus is adjusted based on an individual child's growth towards mastery of each early literacy skill. It is a goal of Spring Lake Park Schools that all children leave third grade reading at grade level. During the first months of school all kindergarten-third grade children take a number of reading assessments. The purpose of these assessments is to identify where each child is in their development toward meeting this reading goal, and to determine how we can best provide reading instruction to each learner. The testing information we have collect help determine our students individual needs and identify those students who may benefit from additional support as they develop early literacy skills. These skills include but are not limited to:Phonemic awareness (the ability to notice, think about, and work with the individual sounds spoken in words)Concepts of print (an understanding of how letters and words are used in printed material) Letter recognition Sight word recognition Phonics Fluency Comprehension Home | News | District | Teaching and Learning | Schools | Departments | Community | Contact UsSpring Lake Park Schools, 8000 Highway 65 NE, Spring Lake Park, MN 55432.Spring Lake Park Schools Address
