The Libman Company is perhaps best known for its wire-wound corn brooms but it also makes a host of other cleaning products which include twist mops, dust mops, sponge mops, wet mops, floor scrubs, push brooms, plastic brooms, whisk brooms and industrial brooms for use in the residential and commercial sectors alike. The Libman Company commenced operations 109 years ago through the efforts of its founder, William Libman. Mr. Libman was born in Lithuania. He departed for the United States in the mid 1890's and landed in Chicago, Illinois. In Illinois he started a new life for himself and his family by initially selling sundry items from a pushcart. He later gravitated to selling brooms, clothes-pins and assortment of household items. His initial foray into the broom market taught him that the wire-wound corn brooms were always a top seller. The vigorous sales of the wire-wound corn brooms caused Mr. Libman to open a wire-wound corn broom factory on Kinsey Street in Chicago, Illinois which was then the heart of the Midwest broom market. Mr. Libman's three sons, Clarence, Ben and Sam, soon became part of the family business. Each one of the three sons proved to be instrumental by adding new life, zeal and energy to their father's corporation. The Company fought through the Great Depression as it actually modernized its then present facility and opened a second plant in Detroit, Michigan. During the 1930's, The Libman Company relocated to Tuscola, Illinois to be closer to the 374,000 acres of broom corn which was utilized to make the company's best selling product. From 1942-1945 The Libman Company produced approximately 2500 brooms per day to assist the United States in its war time efforts. These brooms were deployed to clean the decks of America's aircraft carriers and troop ships which manned the Pacific and Atlantic oceans alike. The grandsons of William Libman joined The Libman Company during the 1960's era when the Company modernized operations to include such technologies as blow molding, injection molding, fiber extrusion and steel tube fabrication. Today the Company is clearly one of the global leaders in its sector as it focuses on maintaining and increasing its market leadership position. The Company continues to be committed to quality, service, an innovative product line and the deployment of national ads to service its loyal and ever burgeoning customer base. The Libman Company Address
