About
Kala Art Institute's mission is to help artists sustain their creative efforts over time through its Artists-in-Residence and Fellowship Programs, and to increase appreciation of this work through exhibitions, public programming and educational efforts. For 37 years, Kala Art Institute has provided professional working facilities to artists in printmaking, photography, digital media, and book arts. The Institute provides emerging and established artists with opportunities to develop and exhibit new artwork and serves as a meeting ground where artists from many parts of the world can work and exchange ideas. By offering access to a wide array of traditional and state-of-the-art image-making equipment, the organization encourages artists to explore the untapped possibilities of combining old and new techniques. Kala’s artists possess backgrounds in many visual art disciplines, as well as performance, film and dance. Kala serves over 25,000 individuals yearly; our constituents range from 5 to 95 years old. Kala gives artists numerous professional opportunities including exhibitions, teaching, technical consulting, and art sales. With a major facility expansion completed in 2009, Kala is better able to serve artists and the general public. The 15,200 sq. ft. Kala facility houses a vast collection of printmaking and photographic equipment, an Electronic Media Center, gallery, photography studio, dark room, three artist project rooms, and extensive print archive.
