About
For 36 years, FriendshipWorks' enduring mission has been to reduce social isolation among older adults in Greater Boston including Brookline, Newton, Somerville, and Cambridge. Our programs focus on creating connections between volunteers and their elder matches for friendship, meaning, and assistance. Our programs include Medical Escorts, Friendly Visiting, Friendly Helping, MusicWorks, PetPals, and Relaxing Through the Arts. Si, Hablamos español! During this unusual time, the contact needs to be different but meaningful. Currently, we ensure that our elders have regular, visits with volunteers by telephone, by email or virtually online through video visits, as well as cards and letters. Phone calls and virtual visits are essential to ensuring our elders stay connected. As we all experience what for most people is a short-term situation, it’s important to know that for many older adults, isolation is an everyday occurrence. Thanks to FriendshipWorks' volunteers, last year, more than 1000+ older adults were able to attend medical appointments, get assistance with tasks, enjoy music and art, experience friendship, and the unconditional love of a pet. By creating these connections that lead to friendships, volunteers helped reduce the social isolation that many older adults in our area experience. FriendshipWorks’ programs are crucial to facilitating social connection and friendships. We hope you will join our mission. Volunteer. Donate. Sponsor. Collaborate.
