About
Sunset Youth Services is a local non-profit organization that has successfully transformed the lives of over 6,000 low-income, in-risk San Francisco youth since 1993. Sunset Youth Services’ youth struggle with chaotic family systems, destructive behavioral patterns, rampant drug use, chronic truancy, incarcerated parents and other risk factors. Our model of providing one-on-one positive support from caring adults helps youth view themselves as valuable contributors to society and engages them in learning to serve their community as opposed to exploiting it. We provide Case Management and Campus Mentoring for juvenile offenders, a Youth Center, Youth Development Programs, an Artistic Expression Program, a Life Skills Program, a food pantry, and family crisis support. Compassion is the heartbeat of all that we do. Many of the youth we serve have been turned away from their homes, their schools and from other agencies. Sunset Youth Services has never turned away any child. We open our doors to youth whom others have given up on, offering them hope and a sense of value and dignity. We have discovered that leading from a place of compassion brings about fundamental transformation, and the success of our relationship-rich approach now serves as a model for 16 other community agencies nationwide. The mission of Sunset Youth Services is to foster long-term stability and growth for in-risk youth and families, through caring relationships and supportive services.
