About
For more than 30 years, Golden Apple has been at the forefront of building a pipeline of highly effective, diverse teachers who have made a long-term commitment to teaching in Illinois’ most challenging classrooms. We are committed to becoming a material solution to the Illinois teacher shortage. The Golden Apple Scholars program prepares students to thrive in some of the most challenging school environments, where resilient teachers are needed the most. Our Scholars teach in nearly every county in Illinois and more than half are teachers of color. Our Scholars are highly effective and stay in teaching longer than those prepared by any other teacher preparation program. The Golden Apple Accelerators program meets the teacher shortage crisis head-on throughout southern, central and western Illinois by recruiting, preparing and mentoring college seniors and non-educators with bachelor’s degrees looking to make a difference in classrooms right in their communities. The Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching & Leadership honor master educators in Illinois each year and our award recipients play an important role in preparing the next generation of teachers by providing instruction and mentorship to future teachers in our Scholars and Accelerators programs.
