About
With its network of parishes covering the country, the Church of England plays an active role in national life, bringing an important Christian dimension to the nation as well as strengthening community life. The Church of England is arranged geographically into 41 Dioceses, each under the care of a Bishop, and covers every part of England.\n\nThe Diocese of York takes in much of North and East Yorkshire, including the cities of York, Hull and Middlesbrough, and two National Parks. Extending from the River Tees to the River Humber, and from around the A1 road to the incomparable Yorkshire coast, the area is home to around 1.4 million people.\n\nWe are a family of 589 churches and 125 schools in 443 parishes, led and guided in their faith and work by the Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrill. York Minster is our principal church. Our vision is to be a family of Generous Churches Making and Nurturing Disciples.\n\nWe are currently working through a Diocesan Strategy that focuses on:\n\n- Reaching those we currently don't\n- Moving to Growth\n- Achieving sustainable finances\n\nWe employ around 70 staff, of all faiths and none, most based at our main office at Clifton Moor, York, and others dispersed across our diocese. Led by Canon Peter Warry, Diocesan Secretary and Chief Executive, our teams provide services to support the mission and ministry of our clergy, churches, parishes and schools, covering areas such as education, training, property, safeguarding, finance and business support.\n\nFurther information about the Diocese of York, what we do, and the people who work here can be found on our website: http://dioceseofyork.org.uk/
