A historical review shows that Granger was the first in the area to offer rubbish cart collection, the first and only large-scale composting facility in Mid-Michigan, the first Type II landfill facility in Michigan using synthetic liners, the first 24-hour public drop off center for recyclable materials, the first operational gas recovery project in the state, and the first Michigan landfill to use windmills in leachate collection systems.
