Apelon (a-peh-lon) is a venture-capital backed software and informatics company, with offices in Ridgefield, CT and Alameda, CA, created in September, 1999 through the merger of Lexical Technology and Ontyx. Lexical Technology, Inc. was founded in 1984 by the late Marsden Blois, PhD., MD., along with David Sherertz, now Vice President, Apelon Federal Services, Inc., and Mark Tuttle, Vice President, Business Development. Today the Metathesaurus includes over 40 authoritative coding and terminology systems, containing over 1,000,000 terms and 450,000 concepts, and is maintained in a distributed maintenance environment developed by Apelon.
Recently, Apelon has begun working for a number of private sector clients, including Kaiser Permanente Medical Group (Oakland, CA), the National Cancer Institute (Bethesda, MD), College of American Pathologists (Chicago, IL), the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN), and Harvard/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Boston, MA).
