Housing and Services, Inc. (HSI) is a New York City nonprofit manager and developer of programs for lower income households and New Yorkers with special needs. Founded in 1987, HSI is responsible for developing and preserving more than 3,000 units of housing, including groundbreaking work converting Mitchell Lama rental projects into affordable cooperatives.
HSI also consults for other non-profits to develop supportive housing programs by assembling financing packages, creating links with government agencies, and crafting viable budgets and timelines.
HSI's programs include The Kenmore, The Narragansett and The Cecil, all in Manhattan, and HSI Scatter Site in Manhattan and the Bronx. Each program provides services that are customized to aid individuals who live with a range of barriers to housing including: HIV/AIDS, mental illness, physical disabilities and addiction. We also serve veterans, senior citizens, and ex-offenders. On-site programs include medical, educational/vocational, and other social services.
HSI is led by Executive Director Jim Dill.
