As a child growing up along the Mediterranean Sea, I remember looking out the window on the weekends and smelling scents of the water and the spices filling the air from the food on the streets. Nothing was better than walking along the boardwalk of the beach and buying the amazing, fresh spices the farmers had gathered. We would rush back to my grandma’s house to combine those spices with the vegetables we bought at the farmers market to make wonderful falafel and salads. We would eat these delicious meals along with the fresh baked pita my grandma had made.
