About
The award-winning Nysmith School for the Gifted is located on 13 acres in Herndon, Virginia, just minutes from Dulles Airport. Established in 1983, Nysmith School currently serves close to 600 students from preschool through the eighth grade. The Nysmith School is committed to nurturing each student’s love of learning while helping them learn to their potential. Our maximum 1:9 teacher to student ratio allows us to diversify math and reading and offers students time with subject area specialists who are deeply committed to helping each child succeed. The daily curriculum includes hands on science, technology, computers, foreign language, social studies, logic, and much more. Daily reading and math classes are diversified up to four grade levels above grade. The Nysmith School guides students through a world-class, enriched curriculum, in ways that engage students and build critical thinking skills--without stress--offering just the right balance of challenge and support. We believe in minimizing repetition in school as well as homework. The Nysmith philosophy is 10 minutes per grade, 4-5 times a week. That little bit of homework teaches responsibility and organization while still allowing our students time to explore other interests like music, art, and sports. The Nysmith School is recognized for graduating young leaders who know how to collaborate with others and helping them be their best. In 2015, Nysmith was named one of the 10 Top Schools In The World by the Johns Hopkins University CTY Talent Search. We believe that learning should be a joyful experience and our goal is that every Nysmith student will love coming to school each and every day.
