About
Approximately 600 people, and many guest researchers from more than 40 countries, are employed at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research. Our scientists pursue research to expand our knowledge of the fundamental mechanisms behind medically relevant infectious diseases. This work generates the basis for developing new preventative strategies, diagnoses and therapies for diseases. The researchers are supported by their administrative co-workers, the infrastructure facilities, work shops and laboratories. With our joint efforts we aim to serve human health. The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research is a member of the Helmholtz Association. The Helmholtz Association contributes to solving major challenges facing society, science and industry with top scientific achievements in six research areas: Energy, Earth and Environment, Health, Key Technologies, Structure of Matter, Transport and Space. With 30,000 employees in 16 research centres and an annual budget of approximately 3 billion euros, the Helmholtz Association is Germany's largest scientific organisation.
