San Francisco Federal Credit Union is a community-based financial institution exclusively serving the San Francisco community. We are a member-owned financial cooperative established in 1954. Today, anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in San Francisco may apply for membership. At San Francisco Federal Credit Union, financial safety is our first concern. For that reason, each member's accounts are federally insured up to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund , an U.S. federal agency. IRAs are separately insured by NCUSIF for up to $250,000. In addition, BauerFinancial, the nation's leading independent credit union research firm has consecutively rated San Francisco Federal Credit Union 5-Stars, securing our position as one of the strongest credit unions in the country. Unlike traditional banks, San Francisco Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial institution. The Credit Union is a cooperative, owned and operated by its members. In addition, after meeting our operating expenses, we are able to return savings to our members by offering higher yields on savings accounts, lower interest rates on loans, and lower fees overall.
