About
A new approach to great crested newt licensing, saving developers time, money and risk. NatureSpace Partnership designed, manages and delivers the South Midlands district licensing scheme for great crested newts. NatureSpace works with developers and participating local authorities to assess development proposals under the new scheme, advising developers on the scheme's requirements. Costs to developers are dependent upon the location and scale of development. The scheme was developed by a consortium of organisations – The Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust, Freshwater Habitats Trust, Nature Metrics and Environment Bank – in conjunction with the South Midlands local planning authorities. NatureSpace delivers the scheme to alleviate development issues surrounding great crested newts and to improve the conservation status of newts simultaneously. The South Midlands scheme is being delivered in seven local planning authorities; - Oxford City - South Oxfordshire - Vale of White Horse - Aylesbury Vale - Milton Keynes - Bedford Borough - Central Bedfordshire - New Regions coming soon.
