United Way helps local residents in Westchester and Putnam become self-sufficient and thrive in a stronger community. They start where people are most in need – helping people in crisis get connected to services through United Way’s 2-1-1 helpline.
But they don’t stop there. They also work on root causes of poverty – working to make sure all of our children are reading proficiently at the end of third grade, a strong indicator of later success.
Additionally, United Way focuses on financial stability for families by providing adults with job training so they can become employed, help with prescription drug costs and by teaching financial education so they can prepare for unanticipated expenses.
Finally, United Way supports hundreds of nonprofits with $2-3 million in gifts-in-kind each year, by providing ongoing affordable professional development, and connecting nonprofits to new resources.
All are welcome to join in making our local community stronger through giving, advocating and volunteering. Sign up to tutor a child, promote the 2-1-1 helpline, or join an affinity group such as the Women’s Leadership Council or Emerging Leaders Alliance.
