The Coalition For Kids is a faith-based, non-profit agency that began in 1998 as a grassroots effort planted within one of the lowest-income, highest-crime areas in Johnson City, Tennessee. Local business leaders and concerned citizens envisioned a safe environment where the youth of this impoverished community could gather for academic assistance and enrichment activities. Since opening our doors in March of 1999, the Coalition has grown from one main site serving 25 students to partnerships with the School System, Housing Authority and several local churches that have enabled us to expand into multiple locations serving more than 300 children a day!\r\n\r\nOur mission is to provide educational, spiritual and social guidance to underprivileged children so that they have the opportunity to reach their full potential in their respective communities.\r\n\r\nAs a United Way \model agency,\ the Coalition continually strives for excellence in our programming. In 2007, we became a state licensed child care provider. This designation enabled us to expand our services. In addition to our traditional focus on academics and enrichment, our Coalition Kids now enjoy more comprehensive programs that address health, safety, and nutritional needs.\r\n\r\nThe Coalition For Kids serves low-income, at-risk and minority children in grades one through six. We offer exceptional children's programming throughout the year. Presently, 98.7% of our Coalition Kids qualify for free/reduced meals.
