About
Founded in 1914, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park is among the top 10 percent of zoos in the country as one of 230 accredited members of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). We are actively involved in saving species as a participant in AZA Species Survival Plans (SSPs) for many threatened and endangered animals. The zoo is dedicated to connecting people to the natural world by providing engaging guest experiences, exceptional animal care and global conservation education. The zoo's non-profit partner, Friends of the Zoo, aims to provide guests with “the best day ever" and welcomes feedback. History of the Zoo The Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park has had its own wild adventure of growth and improvements over the last century. Once just a small four-acre facility, the zoo is now home to over 700 animals representing 275 species. Continuous improvements to infrastructure and animal exhibits ensure that the zoo will remain a treasured attraction in Central New York. Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo Friends of the Zoo, established in 1970, is a non-profit organization and dedicated partner of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. The Friends organization provides financial support through funds dedicated to the welfare of the zoo's animals, educational programs and family-friendly facilities.
