About
JFS was established in 1915 to assist newly arriving immigrants. Today, our agency provides services to families and individuals from all walks of life, to solve problems regardless of religious, ethnic, or socio-economic background. We operate with a $2.9 million budget, with over 40 staff members and two offices in Springfield serving Hampden county, an outreach office in Northampton serving Hampshire and Franklin counties and an office in Pittsfield serving Berkshire county. Our five core program areas provide life changing services: -Counseling for individuals and families including support groups; -ElderCare Services include geriatric care assessment, elder guardianship & conservatorship, in-home counseling, telephone assurance program and educational presentations for older adults and caregivers; -Community Programs offer innovative workshops, seminars and programs in response to changing needs and demographics as well as a safety net in the Jewish community. -Our New American Program assists refugees from around the world who are fleeting religious and political persecution to start a new life in our region. We provide housing and placement, ESL, job training and employment, refugee medical and mental health case management, public school support, citizenship classes and immigration services. -Our volunteer program offers an opportunity for volunteers to use their talents and skills to benefit the community, working from a Jewish base.
