About
Women In Government was founded by Joy Newton in 1988 as a bi-partisan, non-profit educational association for elected women in state government. Women In Government provides a neutral platform for bringing women policymakers together to share information and seek solutions to timely issues before federal, state and local governments. In 1989, the Legislative Business Roundtable was added to Women In Government to unite women state policymakers with leaders in the business community to address issues of mutual concern and promote collective problem solving through public/private partnership. The International Leadership Exchange, begun in 1989, unites women state legislators and business leaders with international government officials, women business leaders & women in various levels of government. The goal of this program is to promote better understanding and create ongoing dialogue, highlighting areas of mutual concern while recognizing & respecting the fundamental differences between legislators in different countries.
