About
Box Elder High School is a rural county high school established in 1894 and located in Northern Utah. Built in the small community of Brigham City, Box Elder High School is one of two high schools in the county and draws students from residential neighborhoods and surrounding farming communities. Although agriculture is still a mainstay of our county, our main industry is manufacturing. The largest employer in our county is ATK Thiokol Propulsion. ATK designs and produces rocket motor systems for NASA, the United States Military, and commercial satellite launch applications. The Golden Spike National Historic Site is an important landmark in Box Elder County. This site marks the historic 1869 completion of the transcontinental railroad. Brigham City has a population of 18,000 residents and the high school currently serves 1,369 students in grades ten through twelve. Our student population is 94% Caucasian and 4% Latino. We have a small percentage of students who have Native American, Asian, and Pacific Islander heritage. Through student reporting, we estimate that 60% of our graduating class intend to enroll in a four-year college and 14% intend to enroll in other post high school educational programs. Box Elder High School is currently utilizing a trimester scheduling system with three semesters each school year. Fifteen courses are available a year. Each course receives one-half (.5) unit of credit. Students spend sixty hours in direct instructional activity to earn one-half (.5) unit of credit. Two-trimester courses are equivalent to one traditional full-year course. Box Elder High School is fully accredited by Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.
